About
A new dream programme put together by Sunwook Kim, winner of the Leeds International Piano Competition and keen explorer of the finest keyboard works. His elegance and natural authority should shine once again this evening. Haydn’s Sonata No. 59 epitomizes the distinctive style of sonata in which the composer combines joy, cheerfulness and seriousness. Opus 6 by Schumann concealed its true romantic inspiration for a long time behind a false dedication. It is one of the boldest and most modern works by the composer, characterized by incredibly luminous harmonic writing. The evening will end with Schubert’s last sonata, his instrumental “swan song”. Here the musician appears to have marshalled all of his gifts for subtlety across the whole spectrum of nuances.
