About
Pianist and composer Nikolay Khozyainov is considered to be one of our talented current crop of musicians. He has won over audiences in some of the most prestigious international venues. He will open his recital with Chopin, followed by his own arrangement of three movements from Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé. The second half will feature the French premiere of one of his own pieces and will close with two sonatas by Scriabin. Sonata No. 2, dubbed the “Sonata-fantasy” is characterised by two movements which must be played without any pause between them. Sonata No. 5, composed ten years later, is contemporary with his famous Poem of Ecstasy, and only has one movement. Scriabin broke away definitively from the classical sonata form and moved closer to the realms of atonalism, developing frenetic chromatic shifts which became the hallmark of his future output.
