About
When presenting him with the award for “Concept album of the year” in 2024, Gramophone magazine stressed his “boundless curiosity”. Bertrand Chamayou is actually even more eclectic onstage than in the recording studio, where he has received many awards for Mendelssohn, Saint-Saëns, Messiaen, and Cage. This Toulouse-born pianist is a champion of Romanticism and he will perform a selection of Romances sans paroles, transcriptions of Lieder, and an exploration of Schubert’s Wanderer-Fantaisie. His work with Boulez, Dutilleux, Kurtág, Adès and with consorts have also made him a connoisseur of modern repertoire. This evening, he will explore Eine Kleine Mitternacht Musik (2001), a cycle of seven “ruminations” by George Crumb on Round Midnight by Thelonious Monk.
