About
Life and its raptures, the next world and its promises. While Richard Strauss takes inspiration from texts and expresses them musically in two blazing symphonic poems, Gustav Mahler draws on five poems by Friedrich Rückert to depict joy, love, rupture, and a final farewell to the world in five lieder which represent one of the highlights of his career. Songs by Alma, beloved wife of Gustav Mahler, are something of a curiosity that grant us the great privilege of hearing mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and her voice enriched with all the nuances of time.
