About
The musicians are teaming up again with Maxim Emelyanychev, with whom they performed two Mozart concerts in February 2025 to great acclaim. The famous Russian conductor has devised a programme in two parts entirely devoted to French repertoire: excerpts from orchestral suites by Rameau and Lully are set in counterpoint to 19th century works. Les Nuits d’été by Berlioz which were initially written for piano and voice in 1841 and then orchestrated, are little gems of instrumentation, each subtly different, which require “extreme delicacy of execution”, according to the composer. They are sung by Stéphanie d’Oustrac, whose warm tone is matched by her keen knowledge of French language repertoire, delivered with perfect diction. Suite op. 80, adapted by Fauré from his stage music for Pelléas et Mélisande, concludes with a magnificent “Molto adagio” which acts as the funeral march for Mélisande. This truly inspired work blends deep emotion with restraint.
