About
After a premiere without an audience due to the COVID pandemic, the Orchestre de chambre de Paris is performing Bechara El-Khoury’s work Il fait novembre en mon âme to mark the tenth anniversary of the November 15 attacks. Commissioned by the Nouveaux commanditaires de la Fondation de France, this symphonic poem honours the memory of the victims while making the narrative relatable to all. There are two high points: the opening full of energy and contrasts which gives way to great softness, and after a time, a soprano voice slides in without words, like a simultaneous prayer and consolation. “Although art cannot save the world, it can save spirits, fragments of humanity, and this helps us to take small steps forward,” states El-Khoury. Following on from this work which moves towards peace, we have Symphony No. 39 by Mozart, who had a special gift for conjuring up human suffering and joy. With its combination of perfect mastery of language, and an outpouring of inspiration and personal emotion, it is one of the composer’s most popular scores. This Mozart symphony and Il fait novembre en mon âme both connect, in their own way, with the universal.
