About
We remember Les Siècles’ memorable Flying Dutchman two seasons ago on avenue Montaigne. The ensemble continues its exploration of the Wagnerian repertoire on German instruments from the second half of the 19th century, with famous orchestral excerpts from Parsifal and Tristan and Isolde, under the baton of Jakob Lehmann, the young conductor with whom Les Siècles embarked on a fruitful collaboration last season. Bertrand Chamayou is a regular guest performer with the orchestra and will tackle piano concertos by Wagner’s father-in-law, Liszt. These two works were composed virtually simultaneously and developed by the virtuoso composer over a period of many years. He moved away from the formal structures of the genre, favouring continuous narration reminiscent of the sonata and symphonic poem. This is a celebration of German Romanticism in all its intensity, elevated by the virtuosity of Bertrand Chamyou and the rich colours of Les Siècles’ historic instruments.
