About
Giulio Cesare is undoubtedly one of Handel’s finest works; more than just a depiction of history, it is first and foremost a story about love. In most of his operas, political clashes thwart the impulses of the heart and other passions, but here reasons of State prompt the birth and expression of the tenderest of feelings. The librettist enjoys setting ever more obstacles in the path of true love and Handel responds with some of his finest arias.
