About
Farnace is considered to be Vivaldi’s favourite opera, as is demonstrated by the fact that the maestro reworked it to produce seven versions over the course of nearly a decade. It tells the story of Pharnaces, King of Pontus and opponent of the Roman Empire, and his enemy Queen Berenice of Cappadocia, who was allied with Pompey. The plot lays bare the complexity of human relationships confronted with an all-consuming love of power. The ensemble is supported by sophisticated music, and Emiliano Gonzalez Toro takes the title role and conducts this team of seasoned singers of this exhilarating and demanding repertoire.
