About

Old meets new – Bach’s Chaconne for solo violin rewritten for the keyboard by pianist Ferruccio Busoni, romantic techniques repurposed for early forms by César Franck, and Maurice Ravel’s appropriation of 18th century dance suites. In short, Benjamin Grosvenor is re-exploring elements of the programme from his recording Homages (Decca) released in 2016, which dazzled even the most demanding critics (Diapason d’or award, 4 stars in Classica magazine, and a France Musique pick, to name but a few). On this occasion, the British pianist is paying tribute to women by opening his recital with the seven variations composed by Clara Schumann in 1853 on a theme from her beloved husband’s Bunte Blätter, as one of the many tokens of her love.
