About

After a rich musical love affair with Yannick Nézet-Séguin, now musical director of the Metropolitan in New York and the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra is embarking on a new chapter in its history with a young conductor whom all the major orchestras are fighting to sign. At barely thirty years of age, Israeli-born Lahav Shani is outstandingly talented. He came to the attention of several prestigious orchestras in 2013 for his maturity, naturalness and instinctive musicality when he won the Gustav-Mahler Conducting Competition held in Bamberg. Since then he has had numerous invitations and appointments and he is now the successor to Québécois Yannick Nézet-Séguin in Rotterdam, and to Zubin Mehta at the helm of the Israel Philharmonic. He will be accompanied by violinist Hilary Hahn for the Dvořák violin concerto, which is less frequently played than the composer’s cello concerto, but equally thrilling due to its innovative form.
